How a betting exchange differs from a fixed-odds bet
In an exchange, opposing customer positions are matched. A back selection supports an outcome happening; a lay selection opposes it. For a request to become a matched bet, there must be an accepted opposing position at the relevant price and amount.

Back, lay and liability
A lay bet's liability is the amount at risk if the outcome you opposed happens. It should not be confused with the backer's stake. Read the stated liability before confirming a selection; laying an outcome is not inherently a safer way to bet.

Read the event, market and order together
The event identifies the fixture. The market specifies the outcome and period; the order record shows the requested and accepted position. Keeping these separate makes a settlement or account enquiry more precise.

In-play prices and order status can change while an event is taking place. Use the account's current records when raising a question; a delayed broadcast or a screenshot from another website does not identify the state of your order.
